If you’ve never heard of the city of Babylon, Iraq…it might be time to take an interest.
Babylon is mentioned 280 times in the Bible, more than any other city except Jerusalem. You may not know this, but Babylon is easily the most important pagan city that’s ever existed. I doubt there’s any city in the world that’s not been influenced religiously, governmentally or commercially by Babylon, and though SOCIALISM was not a word used during its reign; the culture practiced its philosophy liberally.
Organized living independent of God, was the way of life for those that lived within the walls of Babylon.
Though the city has been destroyed multiple times, the remnants of its influence has clung strong to many in Iraq, as well as other countries (including the United States of America).
Rebuilding Babylon has not only been attempted by many (most notably Saddam Hussein who was given 30 million dollars as early as 1971 to complete the task and made much progress before the 1990’s), but the Bible gives prophecy to the fact that the once great city WILL BE RESTORED and governed by the Antichrist in the TRIBULATION (Ezekiel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel).
During this time, all practices of GOVERNMENT, COMMERCE, & RELIGION, will run through Babylon. Tim LaHaye said in his book, ARE WE LIVING IN THE END TIMES? “That city (Babylon) will be more than a replica of an ancient wonder of the world and the capital of the last satanic world empire; it will be the most technologically advanced, earthquake-proof city in the modern world.”
Some speculate on the timing of the restoration of Babylon. Will it happen before the RAPTURE or during the TRIBULATION? Much is debated, but one thing is made clear by the book of REVELATION: During the TRIBULATION and BEFORE Christ returns to begin His MILLENIAL KINGDOM, the greatest Earthquake the world has ever seen will flatten the surface of the Earth to make way for the MILLENIAL KINGDOM.
During this process, Scripture says that, “God remembers the great city, Babylon, and makes her drink the cup of His fury and wrath.” Because of this, I believe Babylon will most certainly be rebuilt (either before or after the RAPTURE) and destroyed by God, once and for all, during the TRIBULATION.
“Why does this matter now?” you may ask.
Because the rebuilding of Babylon is happening…right now…today…before our very eyes….and has been happening for years.
Articles published by “The Art Newspaper” and “the Jerusalem Press” in February and March of 2022 both speak to Babylon coming back to life. “A new World Monuments Fund (WMF) project in Babylon, funded as part of a 3-million-dollar donation by the United States embassy in Baghdad first bestowed in 2018, aims to repair and restore the famed Ishtar Gate by this summer.” https://www.theartnewspaper.com/.../babylon-is-coming...
In case you were confused by the quote, Babylon is in fact CURRENTLY being rebuilt, and in fact, the United States (which means you and I) is helping to pay for it.
I’ll end with this. For so long people have denied the validity of PROPHECTIC SCRIPTURE. In truth, more and more Christians themselves, are turning from the TRUTH of God’s WORD in our culture today. But those denials are getting harder to defend as we are starting to MORE CLEARLY SEE the literal fulfillment of prophecy in Scripture setting stage right before us.
