There Is More...

In my adult life I've always tried to keep my head at least somewhat in the political world. It has been important to me that I'm as educated and "in the know" about the men and women running for office of this great country, as I possible can be. This collected knowledge helps in my voting process come election years...like the one we have coming up this November.

In this process I have listened to the promises made by candidates in the past and by the ones running at this very moment. I've taken in their varying ways of promising that they would help create a better world...especially for our kids and grand kids. Their sentiments have the ability to move our hearts deeply as WE ALL long for a world we can be proud of.

Some politicians make commitments to banish poverty, while others pound their fists on desks and declare that they will put an end to war. I can remember as far back as the Bill Clinton election, the realities of starting a health insurance system for all. And most certainly, promises of low taxes and quality education has passed the lips of most folks running for office.

I find all these goals, promises, and sentiments, to be truly noble. But I've also grown to learn, that they're all very hard to achieve. Especially in today's world, with all of the evils that fight against these realities.

I've been reading some of the book of Revelation and in chapter 21, the Disciple John records:

"I heard a voice thunder from the Throne: 'Look! Look! God has moved into the neighborhood, making his home with men and women! They're His people, He's their God. He'll wipe every tear from their eyes. Death is gone for good - tears gone, crying gone, pain gone - all the first order of things gone.'

The Enthroned continued, 'Look! I'm making everything new. Write it all down - each word dependable and accurate.'"

--Revelation 21:4-5 (MSG)

John's message above is a vision of the future. A future that speaks to God wiping the tears of His people and taking away their pain and sorrow. It hit me as I read this Scripture, that for God to be doing this in the future...there must still be things yet to come in this world that cause us all to hurt and cry.

You see, the evils that infuse our fallen world can never be eradicated by the best government or the smartest politicians. Evil is just too deeply ingrained. If you think I'm wrong...I'm willing to hear you out. But I challenge you to look at John's words again. If this world had the ability to wipe out evil and fulfill the promises made by our leaders every day...then why would God have to dry the tears of his people in the future?

Furthermore, note that God doesn't make promises to make this "a better world" like our leaders do. Instead, He announces a NEW ONE. He said, "Look! I'm making everything new." (Revelation 21:5) This is also what the Disciple John saw, "Then I saw a new Heaven and a new earth, for the old Heaven and the old earth had disappeared." (Revelation 21:1)

Brothers and sisters, the world we live in...the good and the bad of it...will be abolished one day, and a new one will be established in its place. For this reason, it's important that we not only live for today...but that we live in expectancy for the new world to come.

Does this mean that we should not worry about the problems of our world today?

Not a chance! I say that even if we can't eradicate the ills of our world, our capacity for compassion and love, give us the tools to at least alleviate them. While we are here, God has given us all a GREAT CALLING to love the hearts of His people...and to help bless them as He has blessed us.

Look ahead brothers and sisters, and show the world what is to come by way of your testimony and Gods power that allows us to live and breathe and find peace.

There's a reason to hope...there's a reason to sing. Our new home is coming.

If you choose to listen to this song...close your eyes...put your hand on your chest and feel your heart beat...embrace what's to come. There is more....
