With any survey it’s always a good idea to consider the sample size and this one is no different. After reading the article it’s clear that the respondents were not giving answers that support each other logically. But I can’t deny that in the last few years I’ve started to read more and more from Christian circles, their belief that Jesus is not the only way to salvation. Many of them come to this conclusion after going through what they call a DECONSTRUCTION of their faith and beliefs. There’s a lot that can be said about this process and even more about the end results, which can pan out in many different conclusions.
From what I’ve studied of DECONSTRUCTION (and this is my own conclusion) it seems to be a process that’s very much driven by emotion. I suppose considering the culture we live in today this is not too surprising. And while each and every one of us are emotional people, the truth is, overindulging in our emotions can bring us to a place of both selfishness and uncertainty. It can become a very “ME” focused situation where our feelings become top priority in our lives. Don’t get me wrong, emotion can be useful if wielded in the right way, but to be consumed by it is to risk drowning out the TRUTH of God’s Word.
That’s really what’s being challenged here, right? The TRUTH. Because it seems we live in a world now where truth is not God’s TRUTH and instead it’s whatever you think it needs to be in order to feel whole emotionally. Every single day I’m seeing the reality that God’s truth has not only become inconvenient to the atheist and agnostic, but to Christians as well. So much so that the TRUTH of God’s Word is being reinterpreted into the truth of whatever satisfies me on an emotional level.
If I read something in Scripture that hurts my feelings or makes me uncomfortable, that can’t be TRUTH, right? Because God is about love and comfort and my life feeling as fulfilled as it possible can be, right?
I read these questions (that I know so many Christians are asking themselves right now) and my heart becomes heavy at how deep God’s TRUTH is being buried by the very people that once claimed to trust Him for EVERYTHING.
Brothers and sisters, I don’t know a lot, but I do know this…God’s Word is not malleable. It stands on its own.
You can spend your time trying to manipulate Scripture so that it aligns with your preferred preferences and feelings, but I guarantee you will find at the end of that journey…that the truth you have been creating will have evaded you as quickly as sand slips through one’s fingers.
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6
This is the TRUTH of God’s Word, plain and clear.
So tell me…how do 60 percent of the Christians in this survey agree with the statement, “Buddha, Muhammad, and Jesus are all valid paths to God.”?
Something is obviously very wrong here and I believe it is an attempt to transform God’s Word and God’s TRUTH into a sort of emotional gospel that has a “one size fits all” approach. Brothers and sisters, beware this false gospel. Because of its all inclusive nature, it may seem more appealing and satisfying, but its truth will not stand the test of time because of its standard to evolve and change with the desires and will of man.
God’s Word and Truth is like Jesus.
“For Jesus doesn’t change…yesterday, today, tomorrow, He’s always totally Himself.” – Hebrews 13:8 (MSG)
Don’t waste your time trying to change the meaning of Scripture. In the end, it’s just not possible. Instead, read it for what it truly says and allow God’s TRUTH to change you.
