How Far We Have Fallen

The weight on my chest is real. It burns and lingers.

I watch the world around me and I think that sometimes the darkness is so deep that I could drown in it. Lord, how did we get here? How in the world has so much of YOU slipped away from the hearts of the people that You love?

Is it our defiance? Our pride? Our need to believe that we have everything figured out that has brought us to this place of dim confusion?

God, so many people don’t know who they are anymore…so many people even question WHAT THEY ARE.

Have we really fallen this far? Have we truly forgotten our first love? (Revelation 2:4)

God, please forgive us for our vanity. Please forgive us for thinking we can handle everything in this life on our own. We’ve abandoned Your WORD and worse than that, we’ve abandoned Your heart. It’s such a foolish thought to think that we can stand up to the devil and vanquish anything he might throw against us or our family and friends. Did we really think we were going to simply just know when our enemy was going to strike? Did we really think the only way the devil was going to get into our home was by way of knocking on the front door? Announcing his presence, declaring his purpose, and pushing his way into our lives.

How in the world did we become so naïve?

How is it possible that we’ve forgotten how truly cunning, stealthy, and opportunistic, our enemy truly is? He hates us…and moreover he’s hungry. Hungry for the BELIEVER'S downfall and the LOST'S damnation.

Peter says in the Scriptures that we should all be disciplined and on guard, “Your enemy the devil is prowling around outside like a roaring lion, just waiting and hoping for the chance to devour someone.” --1 Peter 5:8 (VOICE)

Do we even know what that means anymore?

Or has the devil succeeded in royally confusing the world and making so many of us believe that he doesn’t even exist?

God, we need You. We are so ill prepared in so many ways for what’s to come.

Help your people to STAND dear Lord, and help us to love others the way you do and be vigilant in letting You work through us. Father, please help us to be humble and brave enough to let YOU have the last word. You’re going to have it regardless, so please inspire us with hearts that want to serve Your purpose and not get in the way.
