Sometimes I think about our forefathers and their determination to establish a free and democratic system of government for our nation. I imagine them penning the Declaration of Independence, the foundation this country’s government stands upon. These Godly leaders had true courage and wisdom, so much so that the Declaration of Independence, as well as the Constitution and Bill of Rights, to this day, still stand the test of time.
I wonder if they had any clue back then, where this nation would be today. If they could even perceive the challenges faced by its people and the amount of effort given to keep this great country together.
Taking in all these leaders accomplishments of the past, in order to establish our freedoms and have a country of our own; I have to think that they had some clue. I have to think that God gave them enough wisdom to understand that the United States of America would be challenged…not just by outside forces…but from within as well. And I have to believe that they put their faith and the fate of our great country into Gods eternal hands.
It’s not that far-fetched, is it?
We’re not perfect, but by Gods grace we’re still here, and so is He.
I close my eyes in this moment and I can hear the Psalmist say:
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” --Psalm 33:12
